The ground beneath your feet--or your body, if the switch caught you off-guard--is cobbled and damp. You're in an alley which has seen some better days, and it's dim from the cloudy sky and the hug of buildings on each side. You step out onto the sidewalk just as a car rolls down the street. The temperate air isn't bad on your skin, and there's a lingering scent of river water and briny, wooden docks. The sky overhead forever threatens rain even if droplets only come here and there, most of the time. Just be careful that you don't get caught in the rain during a surprise downpour! They can last for hours.
Beside you is the endearingly dated Koi Pond sitting quaint and snug on the corner. It's not bustling by any means, but taking a glance into the window shows you a few full tables of people playing cards and drinking, a counter with keg taps, and a handful of friendly staff - though some might look a little familiar. The flip cardboard sign in the window cheerfully says OPEN. On occasion there's a clip clop of hooves as an obscenely large moose wanders just a little too close to the bar, then huffing in your direction, because he fears no god. He's a calm moose, apparently the protector of this little establishment. He won't wander too far from it.
Along the street, everyone is coming and going. They're all dressed nicely, no jeans or sweatpants here. The men are professional in their button-up shirts and suits, some without their jackets, and their polished shoes and fedoras. Likewise, the women are in pencil skirts or a-line dresses, hose, and low high-heels (though you can spot one or two bold ones rocking a nice pair of trousers and a blouse). Children are all dressed like mini versions of their parents. Care to have a look at one of the boutiques? There isn't a super stretchy elastic band in sight.
As Original Individuals take inventory of the world around them, they'll realize that there's a letter in their pocket...?
Or Are You Just Happy to See Me? (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)
Alright, punks, let's try this again. (ง •̀_•́)ง So listen up, bucko, I'm only gonna say this one or maybe about four more times!
If you want any chance of going home again, to your family, friends, loyal dog or whatever, you're all gonna have to try to put yourselves back together! The easiest way to do that is to regain the pieces of yourself that you've lost - and those pieces are gonna be more likely drawn to your soul the more you feel.
That's right! Feelings! You lone wolf types are probably shaking! (ꐦ ಠ皿ಠ )
The same is true for all your sweet ol' friends who have tapped into the alternate version of themselves here. (」゜ロ゜)」 They have to experience meaningful moments in order to regain pieces of themselves too! So laugh! Cry! Question your meaning for living! Don't lose sight of the goal which is to just like, experience stuff really. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ All you've got is each other!
Don't get too downtrodden if they don't recognize you right away though - your bonds will never be broken, true friends are never that far apart, kyahhh. o(*≧□≦)o .... aka they're more likely to want to talk to you than you think.
And besides, you'll only all be able to make it home if you all collectively regain enough pieces of yourselves. ヾ(o✪‿✪o)シ
Yayyyyyyy. (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧ Teamwork. Make use of Home Base to touch base with each other if you can!

Welcome to Montevallo, the River Pearl. Try not to get shot. (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
Original Characters will then find themselves with a semi-brief summary of what their Remixed life would have been - and this time around it includes a helpful sentence blurb for each of their relationships to others, as well as the climate of the town around them, recent politics included. For those of you who haven't crafted possible Remixed lives, you'll only get:
( ⚆ _ ⚆ ) Um… Backstory not found?
Just do yourself a favor and don't wander onto the wrong side of town. Kind of a big deal around here.
When you begin to explore, you find the town of Montevallo is divided into three territories:
Home to the Mori Family and its Head, Chuuya Nakahara, is Eastside. Life east of the river is free of conformity. Both the architecture and people are thriving in their diversity; every family collected into the Mori enjoy adding their own unique flavor to the East. No two blocks look alike, and much of it is awash in various colors. Peppering the industrious businesses and the simple homes are a few upper class places of entertainment and intrigue, owned and run by both familiar and unfamiliar faces. Want to take a look around?
Mornings sing the hustle of children on the way to the school in Middleton, to the march of men and women going to their work. Every noon, a small clock tower chimes the time, and a small, short display begins. And during the night, especially through the weekend, Eastsiders pour out in waves to enjoy themselves in the fancier establishments.
Across the bridge, Westside is home to the Xian Le Family and its Head, Xie Lian. Due west of the river is nothing like being in Mori territory. Homes and businesses scream old money, and their edges and fronts are elegant and structured, the details precise and gilded. Walking along the street fills the air with aristocracy; it's difficult to tell the difference between a residence and a business since where one beautiful building ends another begins. A place like this is likely to have quite a few secrets.
The days are full of the sound of cars, easily afforded here, as well as the low hum of housespouses busily shopping or caring for young children. At dawn, the children not schooled by parents or tutors traverse to Middleton for school, and parents who aren't homemakers follow soon after to work. When noon strikes, instead of a clock tower, everyone is greeted by the soft, gentle toll of a silver tower bell. And while most people think of Eastside when it comes to debauchery, during the night, even the luxurious facade of Westside can't conceal the one or two rowdier establishments hidden away from prying eyes.
If you look hard, you will find that East and West meet at a few similar places: both are full of their own life and energy with gardens, markets, art and music galleries, and even religious buildings. Not to mention... a number of storehouses and warehouses alike. Who doesn't want to occasionally wander into the lion's den?
Connecting Eastside and Westside are two bridges, one to the north and one to the south. The railings of the southern bridge, Peony Bridge, are adorned with thousands of metal padlocks inscribed with initials, love confessions, and forever promises as is the custom for the perpetually idealistic youth. Walking along this bridge at dawn, or at dusk will treat you to a glittering array of a generation's hopes and dreams. Are you going to bring a lock of your own? Feeling nervous? Want to confide in the person walking by what you're hoping for? You might as well - it's not like you have a lot to lose.
Finally, there's Middleton, a wholesome slab of neutrality settled right in the center of town. It has the town hall, and the only school, the only bar (Koi Pond), and the only ammunitions shop. Several handfuls of other businesses are also here lining the streets, some manned by people you have never seen before, and some manned by people you may have seen one too many times.
The neutral zone is full of chatter - the recent idea of talks toward peace, whether or not that can be trusted, or even more excitingly, the upcoming Date Auction and Azalea Lights Festival, the latter taking place on February 14th. So maybe the flower shops might be a little bit more pushy about the bouquets they want you to be, and clothing shops might be extra eager to dress you up. The attention's flattering, isn't it? There may even be a fortune teller or two coming out of the woodwork to offer you a compatibility reading with anyone walking by. They do say it's a number's game. Makes you wonder what kind of people signed up!
Tucked away in this neutral zone is also the local Montevallo Post Office. It seems like it may be... inside an apartment? An apartment run by none other than Wei Wuxian, for some reason. A black cat with white feet greets you at the door stoop, flicking its tail and chirruping. Actually, you notice quite a few cats coming and going around here after looking. Knocking will get you the answer of one of two people, and hopefully one is the courier. All you know is you should ask for a man named Shigure.
As characters wander around, even if Original characters and Remixed characters might not have established AU bonds with each other - they will still find themselves drawn to one another, even if it's just to talk about the weather, nudged by some force that tingles in the back of their mind that tells them that this person, beyond reason or explanation, is a little familiar.
Seems like a cozy little place overall -
Hope nothing happens to this quaint little town.
