( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.

When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently? In addition, characters will find that they've been allowed to bring back souvenirs from this most recent trip - trinkets, nothing violent, but items that can fit in your character's pockets, whether that be sentimental or otherwise.

The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. For those who have been here a while, they might notice some expansions. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble.

It might've changed since the last time you saw it. Today it reads:
(*´ω`)o That wasn't so bad, was it?
Hey, you know how that old song goes?
Do you believe in magic? (☆▽☆) Do ya?

Hope you found what you were looking for!

You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin. In addition to that, it seems like Home Base is on the fritz again…?

It seems that suddenly and at random, characters will be able to suddenly see visions of memories that aren't their own flash before their eyes. Pieces of your lives or where you were before this will suddenly slam into other's heads, as clearly as if they experienced the event and the feelings themselves. You might have an inkling of where your memory went and what it was - but you'll need to talk it out with that person in order to recollect it in all its strength back to yourself. Don't you want to keep those precious parts of yourself? It's best if you don't fall more to pieces while you're here. (Memories that have been lost in fragments cannot be sent to others - that's more fun for the future!)

There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Or maybe you'll get a glimpse of where you're going next. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:

There's still much more ahead of you.

[Things she expected:

A toy car. A scooter. One of those little baby carriers kids get when they learn to walk that they can ram into walls. Maybe a motorcycle.

Things she did not expect: some random guy with wheels in his shoes.

It's probably a world record. It took only two sentences for this guy to come up with a horrible, terrible, no good idea and she's floored at how fast she's having to backpedal outta this situation.
]

Don't you-hey, there's gotta be a better idea than this. You can't go through that. You could seriously get hurt. Oh! I know! Why don't you just take off the shoes and send that through instead?
givethemhell: (reborn)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-11 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[NO BACKING OUT NOW, IRIS! YOU'RE COMMITTED!! Who else is he going to turn to for help in his grand plan to be flattened by giant sponge windshield wipers??]

It's fine! I won't get hurt, you don't have to worry about that, haha. [Maybe she should, actually?? SOMEONE HERE SHOULD and that person is clearly not going to be Wei Wuxian.]

Without weight to hold it down, the shoes alone would be blasted away by water in no time, I'm sure. The weight of a body will make it much more stable, you see?
carrotkeeper: <user name=ponponpon> (he just won't let go)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-11 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[The most troubling part about all of this is he's thought out seemingly every reason why he has to be attached to the shoes and not a single reason for the why not.

The point is, he will definitely get hurt. That high powered water spray is gonna ruin more than his hair.
]

No way. I'm not gonna watch you get hurt and besides-

[Then it hits her. An amazing, brilliant idea to keep this rando from destroying himself in a blaze of soap and glory.]

You know what? I have a way better idea. Here, let me see them.
givethemhell: (peons)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-11 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Is that really the most troubling part, Iris. IS IT. He'll be fine, he'll be fine--

But he's always curious to see what kind of shenanigans other people can get up to! He knows his own plans, he wants to know what hers are now. Give him a second as he balances himself so he can take his heelys off. It's fine, even if she wrecks them somehow there are a million more in bulk at Notsco.]

What is it? What's your idea? Weigh them down with something else and send them through that way?

[Apparently he has thought of alternative ways of doing this... HE JUST DOESN'T WANT TO.]
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (i'm cracking eggs of wisdom)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-11 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Plan?? Her big plan?? Her only plan is to save this guy from himself through any means necessary. She waits until the heelys are safely in her grip, happy that it wasn't more of a fight. Then she holds them behind her, so they're out of sight and hopefully outta goblin mind.]

My idea is to keep these away from you. You're grounded from shoes until further notice.

[Look, she's not gonna keep them forever. Probably not even for the whole day. Maybe not even an hour. She's just gotta be sure he won't run through the car wash when she isn't looking and this is a way to ensure that won't happen. Hopefully.]

Unless we can find something heavy to put them, then we can totally send them through. Just as long as you aren't in them.
givethemhell: (lemme show you everything i know)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-11 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's a lot of optimism she has there... Anyway, with an exaggerated and feigned look of BETRAYAL, he places a hand to his chest.]

You can't just take my shoes away! What if I step on glass? The cut could get infected and I would die of gangrene. Isn't that much worse than a little rinse?

[He seems perfectly content to putter around without shoes, that said. Look, he's from Ancient Fantasy China and he worked on a farm for years. He wears his shoes even into the bed sometimes like a true demon, but it's not like his feet are delicate.]
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (you snitch you die)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-12 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
[That's a valid point Mr. Heely, but she trusts the any potentially glass covered ground far more than him right now. Walk around it!! But-

She can't really steal his shoes forever. This is a temporary solution to, what she assumes will be, an ongoing problem.
]

I'll give them back to you if you promise to not go through the car wash.

[She can't believe these these words are coming out of her mouth right now. The fact they have to be spoken at all is sure something.]

And the Amicitia family takes promises very seriously. You can't break it once you commit.
givethemhell: (reborn)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-12 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[She is RIGHT IN HER ASSUMPTION. Wei Wuxian is just an ongoing problem in general. His existence is an ongoing problem. He is exhausting and should probably just be laid to rest for the good of mankind.

Unfortunately he's still alive and kicking though, wow.]

If you take promises so seriously, then I can't possibly make one lightly! I'll have to say no. How can I say with certainty that I won't end up in there tomorrow, even if I don't today?

[BY STAYING OUT OF THE CAR WASH MAYBE.]
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (couldn't even make I more smarter)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-12 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[In her limited life experience, it's not difficult to stay off car wash tracks on a day to day basis. She's gone about 15 years without being stuck inside one. Wild how that happens.]

You're really determined to do this, aren't you?

[WHY? Why?????????]

Look, there's gotta be a better way. Let's find something else with wheels and try that instead. There's gotta be something else around here we can use.
givethemhell: (curiouser still)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-12 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[CONSIDER THOUGH, that her life is not a life truly lived until she does get stuck inside a car wash.

Also that's a good question and not even he has the answer to it.]

There are plenty of other things with wheels if you'd prefer to use those! Shopping carts, those little plastic scooter things for children, skateboards... Would any of those fit your standards?

[What standard does he even think he's trying to live up to here...]
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (this car is a finisher car)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-13 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Those are way better. As long as they're empty and not filled with a heaping pile of this dude. Something she's not sure he can guarantee. ]

Yeah, let's try those instead. Whatever we find first, we'll send through. Then you don't need to, you know, take on that challenge yourself. We have a deal?
givethemhell: (don't you ignore me)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-13 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Haha! Yeah he's not even going to pretend to guarantee it. He cants his head to the side, brows arched.]

What's the point of sending something else through without riding it in? You can't collect any data that way at all!

[WHAT DATA.]
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (a transporter of gods)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-13 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Never in her life-

She pulls one hand away from the pair of shoes she's holding behind her to pinch her own arm. Look, she tried this earlier with another kid, but who's to say she isn't dreaming now? It would explain this. If this man is just something her mind has concocted up from all the stress and anxiety of being pulled here-

It would make sense.

The problem is it stings and she's still holding a pair of heelys in front of a car wash. What even is this.
]

Are you some kinda scientist or something? What data are you trying to get?
givethemhell: (this smile has a nya sound effect)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-13 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[He watches her pinch herself as if that will free her from the new demonic reality she lives in and LAUGHS. It's the true laugh of a gremlin...]

Nope! [NOPE.] I'm trying to get data on how well things that aren't cars can go through a car wash, of course.

[Somehow he manages to say this as if it's an entirely sensible thing to say, and not complete nonsense garbage.]

A shopping cart has a little more cover than a pair of heelys, so it should be fine, yes?
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (knitted footwear for cats)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-15 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
[This is what science fair projects would be like if there was no supervision involved. She doesn't get it. Not that it matters. This is something he clearly seems to enjoy and-

Well, this is awful.
]

A shopping cart without you in it would be perfectly fine.
givethemhell: (peons)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-15 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Then let's go take a look at the shopping carts! You can see how covered they are for yourself.

[HE TURNS AFTER THAT to lead the way without further fanfare... without his shoes. It's fine.]

Speaking of! You're a new face. Just arrived, haven't you?
carrotkeeper: <user name=ponponpon> (he just won't let go)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-17 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Once they're safely out of the car wash's range, he'll get his shoes back. He might zoom wheelie into it while her back's turned, like some kind of unruly toddler on a mission to destroy a toy aisle. She's got to limit the chance of that happening.]

Yeah, pretty new. Just woke up here out of the blue. I take you've been here awhile, huh?
givethemhell: (finger mustache)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-17 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
[If he wanted to truly zoom through the carwash, not having shoes would not stop him IRIS!!! But it's fun that she thinks he has even that much logic and adherence to common sense.

IN ANY CASE being helpful is probably more important, SO:]

Mm, I have. Since the first group! ...We think, anyway. No real sign of anyone before us, you know. So if you have any questions, ask and I'll answer if I have any!
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (because I cut the brakes)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-19 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[The amount of people here willing to help out and answer her questions is a nice surprise. Guess that's what happens when they're all in the same interdimensional boat.]

Well, my only question is how do we leave, but I'm thinking if you knew the answer to that, you would all be long gone by now.

[It's hard to settle on questions to ask, when you're not sure what's happening to begin with. She's been going with the flow and it's working out so far. Incredibly. ]

Kinda thought this was all a dream at first and now that it's not, I'm not really sure what to do, but hey-things will work out. They have to. We'll all work together and get outta here.
givethemhell: (hello welcome home)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-19 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
A wonderful attitude to have!

[10/10, absolutely the best, he loves a good optimist.]

But yes, you're right about that. Some people have left before - presumably, anyway? - but we have no idea what the how or the why is, there. [WHO KNOWS WHERE DROPPED CHARACTERS GO it is a mystery.]

Other than that, it seems the only way to get back to where we need to go is by collecting enough pieces of ourselves to make it manageable. No telling when that might be, considering we have newcomers joining us between every world and there's no way of telling if one world will give you anything back in the first place.
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (the golden god)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-22 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[That's some good intel-unexpectedly coherent, given the state of this place. The weird message spoke of pieces too, but she can't think of anything she's lost. How are they supposed to win this?]

So how many pieces of yourself have you found? Did you notice anything missing before or-?

[Was he in the same boat as her?]
givethemhell: (peons)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-22 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
[He's very coherent when he's not being a babbling maniac. THE WAY OF THE WORLD...]

One so far, I believe! [It's two, but he sure didn't realize the first one was missing before he got it back, god.]

Some of the things you can notice pretty easily, and others are hard to spot. Like, say - a dear friend of mine was missing his forehead ribbon! He'd never go anywhere without it and he got it back already, so we know that was a piece. But some people are missing memories and don't notice they're gone.
carrotkeeper: <user name=livebites> (give up if the glove doesn't fit)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-23 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, she's not missing any memories. There's no way someone could go into her mind and just delete parts of her life.

That's what she wants to believe, but his words cause doubt to settle in her mind and she looks disturbed, for just a moment.
]

We have to get them back, right? [There's a pause, and-] Yeah, we have to. If we're missing anything-we'll definitely find them all and put them right back in our minds where they belong.
givethemhell: (uplift)

[personal profile] givethemhell 2020-04-23 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[FAIR MOOD. If he were a person who was easier to ruffle, the missing memories is what he'd be the most agitated about, too. But his memory is already shit without any magic interference, and he's not particularly fussed about most things in the longterm, anyway. God.]

Of course! I'll say we don't exactly know how much we can trust from that stone slab, but one thing it is telling the truth about is that you regain missing pieces by experiencing life in other worlds. Strong emotional ties or experiences, living through things that mirror parts of your original life - things like that.
carrotkeeper: <user name=ponponpon> (it's like a clown that's a baby)

[personal profile] carrotkeeper 2020-04-26 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah?

[This is the weird. It's like they've all been transported into the plot of some random movie and the antagonist is-who? A person that took their memories and wants them all to succeed in getting them back?]

Guess there's no point in dwelling on it. It'll happen soon enough.

[And because he was so nice, she brandishes his heeleys high in the air.]

Here, I think you've earned these back. Thanks for getting me up to date.
