( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.

When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently? In addition, characters will find that they've been allowed to bring back souvenirs from this most recent trip - trinkets, nothing violent, but items that can fit in your character's pockets, whether that be sentimental or otherwise.

The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. For those who have been here a while, they might notice some expansions. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble.

It might've changed since the last time you saw it. Today it reads:
(*´ω`)o That wasn't so bad, was it?
Hey, you know how that old song goes?
Do you believe in magic? (☆▽☆) Do ya?

Hope you found what you were looking for!

You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin. In addition to that, it seems like Home Base is on the fritz again…?

It seems that suddenly and at random, characters will be able to suddenly see visions of memories that aren't their own flash before their eyes. Pieces of your lives or where you were before this will suddenly slam into other's heads, as clearly as if they experienced the event and the feelings themselves. You might have an inkling of where your memory went and what it was - but you'll need to talk it out with that person in order to recollect it in all its strength back to yourself. Don't you want to keep those precious parts of yourself? It's best if you don't fall more to pieces while you're here. (Memories that have been lost in fragments cannot be sent to others - that's more fun for the future!)

There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Or maybe you'll get a glimpse of where you're going next. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:

There's still much more ahead of you.

[Shakily, his hand reaches for one of the closest of the things he dropped, like he's going to start gathering it all up hurried in his arms to run away.

But the sigh stops him short of folding the sword into the crook of his elbow. His eyes narrow on Wei Wuxian's face, and he looks briefly a little shocked. And then the expression hardens. He's such an ornery thing.

It offends and hurts him that Wei Wuxian would suggest such a thing, and yet, it also offends and hurts him to bother saying it does.

He can't win, can he? He can't ever win! He can't have his dogs, or his father's praise, or his mother's satisfaction, or his sister's happiness! He can't have any glory, or honor, or the satisfaction of helping family he loves! He can't have a nephew raised by rightful parents! He can't raze an entire sect to the ground, or rebuild his own with any help! He can't relax, he can't let go, he can't have a good cry, or a goddamn brother without a hero complex who won't put family in front others!]

Fine, [he hisses, sounding sarcastically thankful. He grabs the rest of the fallen things, jerking himself to his feet.] But when could you ever leave anything alone, Wei Wuxian?

[Briskly, he turns and starts walking away.]

[It stings - the words that needle, the tone with its mockery of gratitude, Jiang Cheng's back as he collects his items and turns to walk away. But ultimately, it's for the best.

They can't even think about repairing their relationship while Jiang Cheng is missing so many pieces of his own past, and after he gets those back, Wei Wuxian doubts he'd be willing to reconcile at all. It's better this way, he thinks. If he still exists in his little brother's periphery, isn't there no way for the wounds to close? Won't they continue to fester, refusing to heal, as his mere presence picks them open again and again?

He wants to move on. He wants for Jiang Cheng to be able to move on, too. If that means acknowledging the true end of their time together as twin heroes and parallel-running futures that do not intersect, then that's what it means. This is a good first step there, he thinks. This is the most he can do.

Again, he says nothing as Jiang Cheng leaves - not even the thank you on the tip of his tongue, or the I'm sorry he owes. One of many. But he watches, heavy with thoughts he can't form into proper words and words he can't speak anyway.

It's for the best.]
