( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.
When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently? In addition, characters will find that they've been allowed to bring back souvenirs from this most recent trip - trinkets, nothing violent, but items that can fit in your character's pockets, whether that be sentimental or otherwise.
The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. For those who have been here a while, they might notice some expansions. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble.
It might've changed since the last time you saw it. Today it reads:
You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin. In addition to that, it seems like Home Base is on the fritz again…?
It seems that suddenly and at random, characters will be able to suddenly see visions of memories that aren't their own flash before their eyes. Pieces of your lives or where you were before this will suddenly slam into other's heads, as clearly as if they experienced the event and the feelings themselves. You might have an inkling of where your memory went and what it was - but you'll need to talk it out with that person in order to recollect it in all its strength back to yourself. Don't you want to keep those precious parts of yourself? It's best if you don't fall more to pieces while you're here. (Memories that have been lost in fragments cannot be sent to others - that's more fun for the future!)
There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Or maybe you'll get a glimpse of where you're going next. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:
There's still much more ahead of you.

(*´ω`)o That wasn't so bad, was it?
Hey, you know how that old song goes?
Do you believe in magic? (☆▽☆) Do ya?
Hope you found what you were looking for!

i!
Y-young master Lan. I'm glad to see you well, after... after everything in that place.
[the unintentional murder, and the.... oh boy, the mess that was that promposal.]
no subject
PROM, THOUGH. He doesn't want to think about prom. He doesn't close his eyes, but the way he presses his lips together is--pained, to put it lightly. It's as understated as always, but he's clearly not happy.]
I am fine. Thank you. [(Is he though.) The first thing he'd done upon their return (while he nyoomed off to find Wei Wuxian and apologize profusely) was make sure that he'd had no lingering damages. From that, he could safely assume that no one else did either. He feels bad enough for causing harm in that world--if he'd found out any of it carried over here, he never would've forgiven himself.
Still, Wen Ning's situation was, and still is, unusual. So he glances over, appraising.] And you?
no subject
Oh, I... I'm fine as well! The, um, affliction I had there doesn't seem like it was a... a precursor to anything...
[because he was absolutely worried, on returning, that he'd find those same marks on his skin again, or his senses would remain dulled. that it meant he was returning to how he's supposed to be.
not so far, it seems.]
no subject
Anyway.]
Mm. Good. [He isn't going to upset Wen Ning by saying he doubts this... vitality... is going to last forever, but he isn't lying--he's glad that Wen Ning returned, like the rest of them, much as he did when they'd left. If anyone deserves to enjoy life (Wei Wuxian notwithstanding, of course), it's the man beside him.
Still, with that in mind--] Has Wei Ying checked you over?
[Just to be sure. He assumes it was one of the first things Wei Wuxian did, all things considered.]
no subject
N-not yet. I still need to find him.
[he just ran into lan wangji first-- he's probably on his way to locate wei wuxian right now, wen ning needs to check on him too.]
I hope he's all right as well, after... after all of the incidents back there.
[his brow furrows deeper at the thought, because boy, he hates thinking about wei wuxian's MULTIPLE DEATHS.]
no subject
AND HERE THEY ARE, and hoo boy does Lan Wangji hate thinking about that too. Clear displeasure radiates off of him, his hands clenching and jaw tightening. PROBABLY THE FIRST THING HE DID WAS HUNT DOWN WEI WUXIAN but for continuity purposes let's say Wei Wuxian was busy doing (whatever). It's fine. Lan Wangji isn't. WE'RE ALL DOING OUR BEST.
But also, since he fuckin knows Wei Wuxian--]
It is unlikely he will treat it seriously.
no subject
wen ning exhales a sigh at that, though, with a little shake of his head.]
...I know. I really wish that he would, sometimes, it makes it harder to tell...
[which, you know, is probably the whole point. why is his young master like this.]
no subject
If only their concern was fake too. IF ONLY WEI WUXIAN'S FLIPPANCY REGARDING HIS OWN DANG HEALTH WAS FAKE but no, instead they have to worry like this because he's a goddamn idiot.]
We must assume severity until proven otherwise. [Just makes Wei Wuxian's decisions for him it's fine]
no subject
[that seems like a safe assumption to him, because otherwise it's so easy to miss. he nods, there, hands folded in front of him.]
no subject
But it's hard, not knowing what to do for him. He's not really sure anyone, except perhaps Jiang Yanli, would have the answer he's looking for--but of course, if she was here for them to speak to, she would most certainly have better things to do than chat with him. But Wei Wuxian has had far too few people in his life, who've tried to care for him.
So because Lan Wangji has an inkling of what the answer should be, but he doesn't know that Wen Ning is missing something so crucial--]
How did your sister treat him?
no subject
but that question- well.]
My...?
[wen ning blinks over at him, there, looking... entirely too confused.]
I'm sorry, I couldn't hear what you said.
[surprise: he absolutely is missing something crucial, here. being living has come with the loss of other things, it seems.]
no subject
Oh.
It's barely perceptible, but Lan Wangji stiffens, his gaze turning to Wen Ning. He stares for a little too long to be considered polite, but eventually, he shakes his head.]
Nothing.
[He knows, already, that trying to force it won't make a difference. But he can't deny that it makes him uneasy. How many memories have those around him lost? How many has he lost, that he simply isn't aware of? He has faith that they will get them back, if only by being too stubborn to fail, but the fact that they're missing at all is...
He holds back a sigh, and begins a steady descent, back towards the ground.]
You should rest. It is not good to overwork yourself.
[Better to land too early than to crash and fall on your face]
no subject
[he's a little uncomfortable, under the weight of that stare-- more than a little. lan wangji is good at looking intimidating when he isn't trying to be...
wen ning follows, though, descending along with him rather than trying to object too much.
which turns out to be a very good idea, because once they're a little closer to the ground, that's when a memory slips from wen ning to lan wangji, and he wobbles slightly on noticing the feeling of something abruptly going missing. not this again--
but it might explain a thing or two for lan wangji. wen ning wants to help the two of them despite having met wei wuxian only once, despite being at risk of discovery from members of his own sect; he'll be able to feel the profound disappointment when he isn't recognized at first, how relieved he feels when he's belatedly remembered. ...as well as the embarrassment that creeps in when he has to tell wei wuxian that he's taken the room that was once his, quietly hoping he doesn't bother to read anything into that.
there's a period of the memory that's hazy and indistinct, considering how much his forgotten sister features in it-- there's just the vague sense of convincing someone else to help-- but clarity returns to it just long enough for him to see wen ning agree to try to retrieve the bodies for wei wuxian.
already, there's so much he's willing to do.]
no subject
He's already stepped off of Bichen, but as the memory hits, his sword clatters to the ground. Lan Wangji doesn't reach up to clutch at his head, or claw at his neck--but his breathing is uneven, his eyes locked onto the images unfolding before his eyes alone.
...So this is why.
It would be a lie to say Lan Wangji had never wondered. He saw Wei Wuxian's kindness at the archery competition with his own eyes (though he'd acted like he wasn't watching at the time, of course). And beyond that, Wei Wuxian shines so brightly--it has never been surprising, to see the way others are drawn to him.
But he's never truly known just what the Wens did for Wei Wuxian, to gain his loyalty so thoroughly. All he'd said, back at that disastrous banquet, was that they'd saved him before.
To think, it had been something like this...
Lan Wangji closes his eyes against the heartache he feels. For Wei Wuxian, of course, and for Jiang Cheng--and for Wen Ning, too. It is not an easy thing to defy your family, even if it's driven by love.
He knows that all too well.]
