( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.

When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently? In addition, characters will find that they've been allowed to bring back souvenirs from this most recent trip - trinkets, nothing violent, but items that can fit in your character's pockets, whether that be sentimental or otherwise.

The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. For those who have been here a while, they might notice some expansions. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble.

It might've changed since the last time you saw it. Today it reads:

You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin. In addition to that, it seems like Home Base is on the fritz again…?

It seems that suddenly and at random, characters will be able to suddenly see visions of memories that aren't their own flash before their eyes. Pieces of your lives or where you were before this will suddenly slam into other's heads, as clearly as if they experienced the event and the feelings themselves. You might have an inkling of where your memory went and what it was - but you'll need to talk it out with that person in order to recollect it in all its strength back to yourself. Don't you want to keep those precious parts of yourself? It's best if you don't fall more to pieces while you're here. (Memories that have been lost in fragments cannot be sent to others - that's more fun for the future!)

There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Or maybe you'll get a glimpse of where you're going next. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:

What type is it, then? It's still a conduit for your qi, isn't it?

A longsword. [ however, the phrase conduit for qi nags at his brain - qi is a thing found in the fantastical books he might have read as a child, but when wei wuxian talks about it so bluntly it tugs at his memory, but nothing comes up.

it weirds him out to feel that gap, so he simply Does Not. instead, he holds his sword out toward wei wuxian if he wishes to examine it. ]

[EXAMINE IT HE WILL! Though he's starting to wonder if maybe one of this guy's fragments is just? The wholeass of cultivation?? Which would be hilarious and also kind of concerning, considering how all-encompassing that is as a category. It'd be like forgetting that math exists, what the heck.]

[ see, here's the thing. wei wuxian is totally right! it's a conduit for qi! extremely powerful qi because holy shit this dude cultivated really hard! but it seems like not a lot is going into it, as if liu qingge is doing just the minimum to make it work and nothing else. ]

And you say your sect isn't one of cultivators? Nothing to do with cultivation at all?

Much more than just items, unfortunately! Some have forgotten important people or events in their lives, some lose abilities - I've seen quite an array.

[ to be fair he seemed like he had his shit in order and maybe was from a non-cultivating world until Right Now ]

[ it's terse, cut off, and boy he is not happy with this news. but he can't say it's impossible - after all they were just at a school and now they're back at this weird place again AND the weird place has changed. everything is a mess and he really hates it here. ] And there's no control over when you get it back?

Unfortunately no, not really - but it's looking very likely that the stone was right about getting things back faster or easier if you have some level of emotional investment in what's happening world to world. Helps if whatever triggers the investment has some sort of tie or parallel to whatever you're missing too, I think.

[The scant amount of data he and a few others have managed to compile from their shared experiences point in that direction, at least, even though they sure haven't figured out a better way to organize bigger info-grabs.]

How can you know a parallel about something you don't have? That's merely relying on fate. [ what! a! pain! let him fight something to death to get his shit back in order, please ]

You'd be surprised by how many times "fate" comes through in these situations.
