There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.

When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently? In addition, characters will find that they've been allowed to bring back souvenirs from this most recent trip - trinkets, nothing violent, but items that can fit in your character's pockets, whether that be sentimental or otherwise.

The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. For those who have been here a while, they might notice some expansions. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble.

It might've changed since the last time you saw it. Today it reads:

You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin. In addition to that, it seems like Home Base is on the fritz again…?

It seems that suddenly and at random, characters will be able to suddenly see visions of memories that aren't their own flash before their eyes. Pieces of your lives or where you were before this will suddenly slam into other's heads, as clearly as if they experienced the event and the feelings themselves. You might have an inkling of where your memory went and what it was - but you'll need to talk it out with that person in order to recollect it in all its strength back to yourself. Don't you want to keep those precious parts of yourself? It's best if you don't fall more to pieces while you're here. (Memories that have been lost in fragments cannot be sent to others - that's more fun for the future!)

There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Or maybe you'll get a glimpse of where you're going next. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:

Oh, studying what? Are you a student or something?

[oh - she'll turn toward the voice before offering a smile]

No - I used to be, but I'm afraid I'm past classic schooling age now.

But our last adventure took place on a campus, so it was nice to pretend again for a bit.

Your last adventure? What do you mean?

[She doesn't look too old and as far as she knows, there are no age restrictions on universities. At least in her world. This place really is bringing people from all over.]

And hey, there's probably a lot to study here too. Maybe there's a secret library around here.

Oh, that'd be fun. It'd at least be worth looking into.

Ah - you're a new arrival, aren't you? At the very least I don't remember seeing your face.... We'll spend some time here for a few days I think [because what is telling time in a place that has neither sun nor moon] before we proceed to a separate world where some of us will presumably remember themselves as we are now, whereas others will have their memories rewritten.

Really? How? I mean-I guess if you knew that, you wouldn't still be in this place.

[That sure is a lot to take in and she's not sure how much of that baggage she wants to unpack right now. It's better than being surprised by another sudden world shift though.]

The last place you were-you said a campus? So, what, you all just went back to school again?

[That doesn't sound too bad!!!! Maybe things will be fine afterall.]

Mm, well... it was - an assassin's academy...?

Though there was some magic involved, including some kind of spell that prevented anyone from remaining dead. As... strange as it sounds...

[This woman is speaking so casually about it. Like it's an everyday occurrence to be spirited off into an assassin's academy and Iris can't help being taken momentarily aback.]

Oh, uh.

[Definitely worse than normal school.]

That's really weird. I mean, I guess it's good something prevented you from dying. Does that kind of thing happen a lot here?

The last time was my first time experiencing it so entirely - but it sounds as though that's the case.

[but not her first time being isekai'd, but normally she at least gets to slightly retain herself?]

It's concerning though, isn't it? [she speaks casually because she doesn't like showing off more vulnerable emotions, but she has common sense] I wouldn't blame you if you were worried... but I can at least hope that the next adventure is less violent.

Yeah, you're right. That's all we can do. It's not like we can control what happens.

[It stinks though-the thought of being pulled away yet again, living a fake life in yet another world. Guess she'll deal with it when the time comes.]

All we can do is stay positive and we'll get through it.

[ . . . ah - well that reaction manages to get Iris to smile.]
