welcome mingle
( AND SO IT BEGINS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.
When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably.
The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble.
Well - that, and all the people who seem to have woken up alongside you, lost and also probably Doing Their Best™.
There's no need to fret that much though. It's hard to say exactly where you're going next, even though some places might feel a little bit more like a clue, but what you do know is one unshakeable thing:
There's still much more ahead of you.

[ There are no workers, and therefore there is nobody stopping him from stepping on the boxes to unnecessarily grab the one on the very very top to bring back down, open, and hold a cookie out to Rise. ]
Worth a try, right? Wanna split it? We'll know in about two hours if we get sick~
no subject
Hmm...I guess so. It's better to know now than later, you know? But go ahead and take the bigger half, I don't mind.
no subject
[ Kano takes the cookie in his hand and tries to snap it in half, but it's one of those hard cookies that snaps into three pieces and one of them drops to the ground and there's crumbs everywhere.
...
The other thirds are more or less the same size, so he hands one to Rise and stoops to pick the other one up, blowing off the dust. Five second rule. ]
no subject
You're not really going to eat that, are you? [KANO NO???] We don't know how long this place has gone without even being cleaned.
no subject
[ Kano thinks for a moment, and then moves his hand with the floor cookie inside his jacket pocket. ]
It's fine, it's fine~ How's it taste? Is it good?
no subject
They're actually still okay! I think they might be a fresh supply.
no subject
Oh, lucky~
[ Now that Rise's taste tested, Kano pops his piece in his mouth too and chews. Not bad. Now they won't starve during the zombie apocalypse. ]
Cookies are good for like, a year, right? So the last of humanity must have died off less than a year ago?
no subject
Something like that, I think. [WAIT.] But we don't know that humanity died or anything like that! We still don't even know where we are!
no subject
Haha~ We're in a store with no workers! Where d'you think everybody went if they're all still alive? Ah, if they're hiding out somewhere, wouldn't they have brought all this stuff with them to their, like, bunkers or whatever? Maybe these are no good after all~
[ Maybe the food here turns them into zombies, he doesn't know. Just because something tastes okay doesn't mean it's safe. He should have just pocketed both pieces instead of eating one. ]
But it's okay, it's okay~ Ignorance is bliss, right? Let's keep going as if everything's all okay~
no subject
Maybe they boarded one of the other trains and actually left this place. The store's really big...would we even be able to tell if someone took a bunch of stuff before leaving the area?
no subject
Hm......... Well, if people are ransacking a store and fleeing for their lives, they'd clear out what they really really need, right? So, like, bread and bottled water and horseradish— all we gotta do is look for those things and see if they're all gone.
[ Whatever's on a hurricane preparedness grocery list or something. Those specific things will tell them more than trying to look at everything overall to try to tell what's missing. ]
no subject
[Like. Ew?]
no subject
[ Whatever horseradish is, Kano does not know or care and it does not matter. ]
But whatever, whatever~ The plan is to divide and conquer, then? You take the left half of the store, and I take the right and we'll meet up... somewhere! If we don't get helplessly lost in the process~
[ They could be two ships passing in the night and may never see each other again. It's a very real possibility, looking at the size of this place. He's not exactly sure which direction the exit is, even. ]
no subject
Good idea, but...oh! Here, hold on. [And she's turning to bound her way down the aisle before zipping back with an armful of yarn balls.] We can use the string to make a path and know what aisles we already checked out! And then we can follow the string back to a meeting point.
[Worst case scenario, she can also try to pinpoint Kano by using her Persona but she's a.) not even sure that'll work and b.) a last resort even if it does because c.) this place is weird and d.) nobody else is even here to back her up.]
no subject
Ohh, what a smart idea! Yeah! This'll definitely work! So all we have to do is—
[ He takes one of the bundles of yarn from Rise's arm (white, to match the floor tiles) and ties it to the post at one of the corners of the display of cookies they're standing in front of, positioning the knot about three inches off the ground. ]
Like that~ Then people can step over 'em and stuff and they won't be in the way~
[ Then they won't be blocking the aisles! They'll just be creating tripping hazards, but that can't be helped. ]
no subject
no subject
[ He takes half the yarn and he's off to wrap the yarn around the aisles instead of just marking off the ones he's looked through, making figure 8's between each two rows and he's going to run out of yarn a lot quicker with how much he's wasting like this, but it's fine because he never intended to wander very far anyways.
He passes by the electronics, dried fruit, frozen fish, and that one cold room with the fresh vegetables except it's as large as a normal grocery store should be itself. Nothing in terns of water, bread, or horseradish, so he wastes some more yarn wrapping it around a display, and then follows the path back to the cookies to wait for Rise/eat some more cookies while waiting for Rise. ]
no subject
Kano beats her there though and she tilts her head.]
Find anything?
no subject
Oh, you're back! Good work~
[ He waves to Rise when she comes back, and hops off from where he'd been sitting on the cookie stack, holding out a tin of Danish butter cookies to offer. All the cookies are still intact, but the ones that are supposed to have the large sugar crystals on top are conspicuously missing all the sugar. ]
But nah, nope, nothin' real interesting on my end. If you want a whole frozen spider crab that's like five meters long, I think I can remember where I found it? But you gotta buy ten crabs~ What about you?
no subject
I think I'll pass on the crabs. [She's shaking her head.] It's all household stuff like socks. Nobody needs fifty pairs of gym socks, do they? What would you even use them for?
no subject

-----
[ Sugar is a carb? Technically? It's close enough. Definitely better than plain pastry, though, so Kano puts the tin back on the stack and leans against the stack. ]
Socks are super useful, though? For like... cold feet at night!
[ practical purposes ]
Also for stuff like puppet shows and tinder and biological warfare.
no subject
no subject
Sorry, sorry, but that's top secret info~
[ Biological warfare is kind of... terrible. So there's no way he's implicating himself with something like that, whether it actually happened or not. ]
no subject
...one question. You don't think that's what's going on here, do you?
no subject
... ]
Maybe? Who can say~
[ He sure hopes not, but it's always a possibility. Missing socks increases those chances, too. ]
