( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.
When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently?
The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble. It might've changed since the last time you saw it.
You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin.
There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:
There's still much more ahead of you.

[Okuni says it as much DISBELIEF she can inject in her voice, while also pointing her fan at him accusingly. yeah that's right chuuya YOU ARE FULL OF LIES!!]
I only know one other person besides me who wears those earrings, and he's absolutely not the type to just give them away.
[neither is Baren the type to get mugged or murdered for his stuff?? HM. Who in Oumi would want what the twins have? They're walking symbols of misfortune. If they did get stabbed in the near future, then their bodies would probably be thrown into a ditch and left to rot with all their clothes and jewelry intact! this is a Mystery. Is Chuuya just an outlier? Was he someone from out of town who just wanted Baren's Aesthetic? Baren's aesthetic is pretty goshdarn amazing, so can she blame this guy for wanting to steal from him? wow i guess not
anyway Okuni starts rolling up her sleeves like all 5'2'' of her is gonna start fisticuffs with Chuuya right in front of his dog]
Tell me the truth and I might not beat you too terribly. [she'll try to beat him a little....]
no subject
He doesn't quite prepare for FISTICUFFS though, because he's too busy being confused? What the hell is she talking about- filters through as he frowns, brow furrowing.]
Look, that's all I know about it, okay? I know somebody gave them to me, I just-- don't know who the fuck it was!
[And it's incredibly frustrating, honestly, why don't I know something like that-- he shakes his head at the thought.
--and then a pause, as he peers at her a little harder.]
Wait, don't I know you though?
[not remembering baren and her different outfit makes her harder to place immediately, but rec!chuuya definitely met npc-okuni... time for things to get weirder.]
no subject
She does pause in rolling her sleeves though, because now it's her turn to be visibly confused. She really did think she had Chuuya's number here -- a THIEF -- but a thief who'd pretend not to know Baren would not think he remembered her, unless he was like
very bad at being a thief.]
There's no point in asking me. I don't remember anyone unless they're impressively foolish, vaguely interesting, or sufficiently useful.
[Okuni follows that up with a and unless they're from Oumi, and I would absolutely remember a dog like that in the village. Then, she frowns, because clearly there is some like -- weird mind reading thing going on, or whatever?? there are thoughts she can hear from Chuuya? She'd feel exhausted if she wasn't so focused on Chuuya's EARRINGS]
That is... Unless you're one of those? You know, those strangers that follow my brother and me around for shameful reasons.
[is chuuya a Stalker? maybe he has like... a twin fetish. That would explain everything.]
no subject
[It sounds pointless to him!! Who would even be that important, come on, slips out as he wrinkles his nose, making a face at the thought.]
But you're-- Okuni, right? I know I know you from somewhere... d'you know of a city called Recolle? Ever spend any time in bars? That could've been it, maybe, if you ever dropped by.
no subject
No, I don't travel outside of my home very often. And even when I do, I'm not welcome in those types of places. [bars being... resting areas? places to kick back and relax? It's not like anyone would welcome seeing a Kumou in such a public area] So there's no way I would have met you, and I don't know your name.
But you know mine. And you're wearing my brother's earrings that you say were a gift, but you don't remember him giving them to you? [Because he must have. He would never let them get stolen -- ] How is it that you know who I am, but you don't know Baren?
no subject
[There's a longer pause, there, before he exhales a sigh.]
This is going to sound fucking crazy, but I might have known a different version of you. The place I came from-- it was modern, but a lot of us remembered other lives we'd lived. Other worlds we lived in. So there's... a pretty good chance I met that life's version of you.
[It sounds wild, he knows, but he also sounds entirely serious as he explains all of that.]
That doesn't explain the earrings, but- fuck, I don't know, maybe it's some weird coincidence and they weren't even your brother's.
no subject
It's absolutely not a weird coincidence! Those are his earrings! [Okuni marching on over to cross the last bit of space between her and Chuuya just so she can poke her fan right at one of his earlobes.] Recolle and other worlds and different versions aside --
[she pauses there because it's hard to wrap her mind around all that even now, but look she can move on maybe a little -- zero in on something else that won't require her to think about the possibility of there being a place where someone who's like Baren and isn't exists.]
Maybe the reason you can't remember is because of this stupid place and what it said. About our souls being broken.
no subject
[He draws back a little as she pokes his ear-- let him live!!-- but otherwise stays where he is, trying to consider that.]
It still doesn't make sense, though. I don't think we're from the same place, so how could I forget that much? They had to belong to somebody else.
[Later he's going to look back on how stupid he's being and kick his past self, but! He's doing his best.]
no subject
Yes, well, when it turns out I'm right, you're definitely going to have to owe me something.
[no one said that but okay]
no subject
[but he shakes his head, reaching up to adjust his stupid hat.]
I don't see it happening, so- sure, whatever. If you're right, I'll owe you one.
[he will REGRET THIS.]
no subject
[can't wait for the day when chuuya regrets this]
You can't let your master back out, Marshie, all right? Bite him really hard for me if he does!
[have a few more belly rubs marshmallow]
