( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.
When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently?
The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble. It might've changed since the last time you saw it.
You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin.
There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:
There's still much more ahead of you.

it tried so hard to save us both
He's honestly debating just turning around and walking away without so much as a "well, bye", but he can't not notice the absence of Zidian (and probably feel a little stupidly glad for it, because if he had to lose his guqin then it's only fair LISTEN HE'LL TAKE IT BACK LATER...). Besides that, there's something very important he needs to know, so he's just blatantly ignoring the question for one of his own. SO MUCH FOR THE POLITE AND RIGHTEOUS HANGUANG-JUN.]
What is the last thing you remember?
no subject
I... Why are you asking?!
[Both of his eyes narrow. It's a simple question with a simple answer, but the fact it's having to be asked at all is... strange. About as strange as the idea of them being able to hear other people's thoughts sporadically. Or, you know, Lan Wangji, of all people, heartily yelling FUCK about seeing him?! WOW, HE'S STILL OFFENDED BY THIS.]
Guanyin Temple. I was going in the doors, and then... I was here.
no subject
...
...]
No.
[WHAT DOES THAT MEAN]
no subject
What? You can't just say "no"! [Please, he's losing his mind around. This doesn't make any sense.] I know what I was doing, I'm not stupid. Where's Wei Wuxian? What happened?!
no subject
We left Yunmeng alone. You-- [Oh. He's mad. His hands have curled into fists, shaking minutely by his sides, and he has to stop, to take a steadying breath. Perhaps if-- if everything else that happened wasn't still so fresh in his heart, even after the time they've spent alone here, he would be able to maintain that infamous immovability, but right now, it's taking everything he has to keep himself restrained.
He will not lash out. That would make him no better than the man in front of him. But he can't even bother to feign respect right now.]
"Get out of my sect, get out of my sight." [Those were his words. When Jiang Cheng flung them out, they'd been sparks from a raging fire, but when Lan Wangji says them, they're pure ice. His point is clear even without elaboration--if Jiang Cheng wanted so badly to be rid of them, why would he possibly have followed them? How else would he have known where they were going, if he didn't?]
no subject
What are you talking about?
[He wonders if... he had done what he wanted to do. If he had gone through with it. But there's no way because... he would have remembered. It didn't happen. They left... They left and... he went...? Because Wei Wuxian is his brother. Because... he told himself? No... Yanli told him. She had to have.]
You left on your own.
no subject
There's an ugly, horrible, disgraceful part of his heart that wants nothing more than to see the worst in this man. It's angry and desperate and it truly, viciously wants to believe that Jiang Cheng is either blatantly lying, or incredibly stupid.
But...
He isn't new to this place. Not as new as Jiang Cheng, anyway. He's been here long enough to see, in several different forms, exactly how people's bodies, abilities, and memories have been altered or erased. So with immense effort, he fights off his initial reaction (which is Supreme Offense that Jiang Cheng would dare to think he is callous enough to leave an injured, exhausted, and emotionally wounded Wei Wuxian all alone) and stares at him with narrowed eyes.]
Explain what you remember. Clearly. [lwj being a bossy bitch]
no subject
[It's a gut reaction he can't help, but he at least doesn't spin on his heel and walk away. He simply levels Lan Wangji with a stern stare and thin lips.] Wei Wuxian thought he could go to Yunmeng. So we went to Yunmeng. [He hadn't told them yea or nay, but whatever.] Some women came, and I saw them. What they told me was horrendous. I brought them to the others to let them listen.
About Jin GuangShan.
I caught the two of you. [Which is offered very tightly, but he doesn't say anything else.] He left Yunmeng and us. He thinks he can have a thick face and walk back in? Tch. [There's a pause, and a furrow of his brows.] The two of you left afterward. I found you again at Guanyin.
no subject
Why did you follow?
[Did he really forget all the horrible things he said? Or does he just truly think he said nothing wrong?]
no subject
I...
[He starts strong, confident, but the hesitation confuses him. He glances down thoughtfully, and then back up. The resolve comes back in full Sandu Shengshou force.] Fairy. She tracked you, and I followed her. [He remembers going after the dog, yeah.]
no subject
...Jin Rulan?
[Why would Fairy be tracking them? And if she was, did that mean Jin Ling was around, too? For how long? Wei Wuxian definitely would've mentioned it once they arrived at Yunping City, if he'd known. Jin Ling's safety is top priority to him, whether Jiang Cheng wants to accept that or not.]
no subject
It could be a return fire, in all honesty, but Jiang Cheng's voice sounds completely earnest when he asks:]
Who?
no subject
...yeah he's turning around and leaving BYE]
no subject
Lan Wangji's sudden retreat startles him, but he doesn't make any attempt to rush after Lan Wangji's coattails.] Who is that?! Hanguang-jun! Answer me! [Who the hell is Jin Rulan, and why does he care?!]
Was it someone you found in the temple?!
no subject
It does get him to stop, but he doesn't turn around. He's not sure he can, right now. Looking Jiang Cheng in the eyes and seeing no recollection of his most precious family member (his only family member, the normal Jiang Cheng would say) is just-- too much, in a way he never expected to have to deal with.]
I have no answer you would accept.
no subject
Is it because Wei Wuxian told you that name?
[His eyes narrow even if Lan Wangji won't turn to look him in the face. He searches Lan Wangi's back with a hard stare. He doesn't know a Jin Rulan, not as a person... but that name... it's familiar. It shouldn't be, but it is. At least, it shouldn't be except in theory.]
How do you know that name? Answer me. Did Wei Wuxian tell you?! What game are you playing, claiming Jin Rulan exists?
no subject
His voice is tight when he speaks again, like he's drawing on every ounce of that rigid self-control he's so known for. It's impossible not to feel Jiang Cheng's glare, and he stands perfectly still before it.]
Think for yourself.
[It's the same thing he told Wei Wuxian all that time ago, but in such vastly different circumstances that it's dizzying. Back then, he'd simply had no intention of giving Wei Wuxian answers he already knew. Now, however, he has no other answer to give. Even if he were to try telling Jiang Cheng the truth, even if he could find the words, their relationship is one of tension and disbelief. Jiang Cheng would never believe him. He wouldn't believe any of them, Lan Wangji's positive of that.]
no subject
Don't ever use that name again. It doesn't belong to you.
[Funny, considering who it was from and the second syllable. But whatever! It's not Lan Wangji's! He doesn't care what Wei Wuxian says.]
no subject
He's also not going to point out that he can't answer the question if Jiang Cheng doesn't want him to use that name, because that would be very pedantic and not something the pure and righteous Hanguang-jun would ever do, obviously. Instead he's just going to start walking away again, because that's clearly the better choice here.
BYE JIANG CHENG ENJOY YOUR TOTAL LACK OF ANSWERS]
no subject
"Jin Rulan" belongs to Wei Wuxian, and it belongs (later, he thinks) to whoever his nephew happens to be. Lan Wangji knowing, maybe from Wei Wuxian no less, makes it feel... not tainted, ruined. Only three of them should know about "Rulan."
It was their promise.
There's a heavy, exasperated sound, but no words, and Jiang Cheng doesn't try to stop Lan Wangji. Instead, he glares daggers into the man's back before irritably whipping around himself to walk in the other direction.]
