( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.
When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently?
The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble. It might've changed since the last time you saw it.
You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin.
There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:
There's still much more ahead of you.

I can't rule out the possibility, but it's unlikely. The technology I've come across here is kind of basic. I doubt anyone around this time would be able to develop a virus compatible with me.
[ He's an 11945 Mac in a 2020 PC world... ]
But don't worry. If I end up getting infected and come at you with a knife or something, I hear Miss Shinobu's a deft hand at beheadings.
[ That's only 0.5 jokes. ]
no subject
You know, if she's coming over to behead someone, I got a feeling it's not going to be you. But hey, even that place we just came from seemed basic to you? With the hologrammy sports field and everything?
[ That island seemed a step up more technological from what he's used to, but a 2020 PC would probably blow his mind too. ]
no subject
[ He says this with an airy smugness as he waves his hand and conjures four holographic screens in front of him. They display atmospheric and self-analytic data, as well one screen dedicated to a statistical profile on Kano himself. ]
What, are you on her bad side already? What did you do?
no subject
Mm... Nothing? I just sorta like, existed in front of her. Acted as normal, you know?
[ Kano was just being himself, and he pissed Shinobu off. It really couldn't be helped. ]
no subject
Well, that'll do it. Your "normal" is about as abnormal as it comes.
[ Though he's kind of glad he isn't the only one who finds Kano's behavior difficult... ]
no subject
Hey, hey, I put a lot of work into this "normal," you know? I worked hard making sure it's super normal!
[ This is like... the epitome of normal. Yeah. It's a fabricated personality, anyways, so he can always fine tune it. ]
no subject
Seriously?
[ Once again, 9S feels 2B's absence keenly because here is exactly where he'd be turning to her and piling on with an "Is he serious?" (She would probably just shrug or respond with something noncommittal, but it's the principle of the matter.) ]
Sorry to break it to you, but you're the least normal person I've met here. And you're telling me you're trying to be normal?
no subject
[ Kano will provide the shrugging this time, hands stuffed in his pockets and shoulders hiked up high before he lets them drop. If 9S thinks he's the least normal person here, maybe he just hasn't met everybody yet. I mean, look at Haku; no way he's more normal than Kano. ]
I'm, like, one of the most normal people here! Isn't it just your perception of normal that's screwed up? Like, what about me is so off and how would you normalize it? Bet you can't name ten things.
no subject
One, you asked me to name ten things in order to prove my point. Who does that?
Two, you're keeping a packet of relish that's been open for month.
Three, your pants are full of ketchup and Pop-Tarts.
Four, you go by "Gel-P", which is barely a name even by my standards.
Five, you were trying to make off with an entire crate of tomatoes when we met.
Six, everything you said about being a "Burnish".
Seven, your first instinct when I told you about my hacking was to break into a cash register.
Eight, you're allergic to disclosing any kind of meaningful information about yourself.
Nine, you're clearly a nice guy, but for some reason, you don't want me to know it.
Ten, you've basically admitted that you're trying to come across as weird, so the the claim that you're normal now is crazy in itself.
[ He feels like this entire list was pointless, honestly, but Kano can't say 9S didn't provide proof... ]
no subject
N... nah. Number nine's just plain wrong, isn't it? I was gonna steal your leg and sell it to the black market back then.
[ This is the one he will fight tooth and nail to dispute. Maybe he was going to give it back, maybe he was going to sell it, 9S can't know which. ]
no subject
Nice try, but I stand by what I said. It's true that stealing isn't exactly moral, but taking an android leg isn't the same as taking, say, a human leg. I was closer to a humanoid tool with replaceable parts. Property, basically.
[ Which he was and is still fine with. He is to humans what pods are to androids, and pods are ultimately that: high-performance tools. ]
If I see you chopping off some human's arm and trying to make off with it, I'll be happy to revise my assessment.
no subject
I'll hold you to it! But, hey, from one humanoid tool to another: shitty people are shitty whether they're destroying property or people, you know? You gotta draw your line a bit lower~
no subject
He understands a little better now that humans are prone to sentimentality. They can get attached to their clothes, their phones, even fictional characters -- so it doesn't surprise him that Kano might make the argument that property is anywhere on the level of people. For a human that might be true, but androids rarely get attached to objects or even claim personal belongings, and so he has to beg to differ.
He won't bother trying to argue the point, though. Humans will be humans. ]
Okay, then. True or false: you helped getting all that tomato gunk off me, unprompted, when we first met.
no subject
It doesn't help Kano's case, so he just shakes his head and waves his hand dismissively. ]
Haha, is that what happened? Sorry, sorry, I don't remember~
[ Can't use anything against him if he can't remember to corroborate! ]
no subject
Then let's make number eleven "prone to spontaneous yet convenient memory loss".
no subject
Haha, it's a real medical problem, you know! Can't take it lightly! If I ever seem a bit out of sorts, just play along, 'kay? It'll come back sooner or later~ Probably.
