( WELCOME BACK, TRAVELERS. )

There's nothing but the clatter of train tracks, and the odd feeling of almost floating.
When you wake, it's hard to tell exactly what it is that you're missing - only that you are. There are pieces that aren't quite right, even if you're not sure where those pieces would normally be. Pieces of what, exactly....? Well, if you had to put a word to it, it would be - yourself, probably. Or did you get something back recently?
The place you've found yourself in is strange, certainly. It's probably worth exploring a bit. Though it just as easily seems that the only form of welcome or explanation that you have, comes from nothing more than a slab of marble. It might've changed since the last time you saw it.
You might have changed since the last time you saw yourself too - perhaps with a new emblem on your clothes, or a portrait on your skin.
There's no need to fret that much though. You've already gone through the ordeal once, and you might be able to see results from it. Even so, it's best that you don't get too comfortable, because there is still the unshakeable feeling:
There's still much more ahead of you.

[he really didn't expect the guy who pretty much rollerbladed off a building to run screaming from a dog??
... but he's not enough of an asshole to just watch, after all that mess. he does like wei wuxian well enough to chase after his dumb dog, calling for him.]
Marshmallow-- oi, Marshmallow! Heel!
[the dog slows, then stops, whining in wei wuxian's direction as chuuya catches up... he wants to say hi!! chuuya takes hold of his collar, though, holding him still.]
Good boy. Sorry about him, he just likes people a little too much.
no subject
—As... long as you have a good hold on him... [His lung capacity will grant him the power to shriek loud enough for the entire void to hear him, otherwise.
Anyway, it takes EFFORT and his gaze does nervously drop to Marshmallow a few more times, but he's able to re-anchor his attention to Chuuya soon enough.]
Where did he even come from?
no subject
[he's keeping a hold of marshmallow's collar just in case, though, because he hasn't been here long enough to properly calm down... he knows his dog and how likely he is to go for a sniff anyway when he's not chill.]
I had him at home-- he just didn't come with me when I showed up here. Same with my cat, but I don't think they both showed up.
no subject
So he just showed up this time, then? When you came back...?
[He doesn't ask the question directly but it's on his mind. "YOUR DOG IS A MISSING FRAGMENT???" Who the fuck is this man, Jiang Cheng??]
no subject
Seems like it. If he were anywhere around here before that, I definitely would've known.
[both because he's HUGE and because he'd have been everywhere immediately.]
no subject
So even things like this can go missing...
[Jesus he will flip out of his own body if MORE PEOPLE get dogs back. PLEASE. HE CAN'T BE STUCK IN A VOID WITH DOGS RUNNING ALL OVER THE PLACE. He sighs, patting at his chest a little as if that'll get his heartrate to come back down.]
—But some people really did find things they were missing then, huh? Good to know it wasn't a lot of running around and headaches for a goose chase, if nothing else.
no subject
[thanks, he doesn't necessarily hate it but it's a pain. marshmallow whines a little, nudging at his leg, and chuuya uses his free hand to scratch behind his ears.]
no subject
—Right, right - you mentioned something like that back at the pillar, didn't you? [Around the time he had a meltdown over being a published author who became Jared 19...] Funny, that! I wonder if some people are more prone to falling into these sorts of worlds than others.
no subject
[that won't last long!!
but for now, he's fine with it except for the fact that he is definitely still jared, 19, unable to fucking write. he already tried.]
no subject
[Says the person who seems more unsettled by One Soft Doggo than literally anything else he's had to deal with yet.]
—Say, how's your memory now, anyway? Do you still remember the things the "you" back in that world knew?
no subject
[like, what is his deal, anyway. WHY IS THE DOG APPARENTLY THE WORST PART he's a perfectly good dog!!
but he hums thoughtfully at the question, considering for a few moments.]
I didn't remember everything before I came here, either, so... to be honest, it's hard to tell you if I'm missing anything new memory-wise.
no subject
You didn't? Amnesia...? [Space amnesia???] What about the world that we just left - that Olympics one? I didn't "adapt properly" like you seemed to, so I never had any memories to bring back with me in the first place.
no subject
[Oh, shit, he thinks, no wonder he didn't remember us apparently hooking up before, that's awkward-
But he brushes that thought aside with a little shake of his head.]
-I remember everything from there, yeah. Back home... it's not really amnesia so much as I was remembering what I guess is the original version of myself? It'd come a piece or two at a time.
no subject
[He says, as if he ever had any expectations to the contrary... His acting skills will carry him through Hollywood someday.
That sure is a thought, though. He cants his head curiously to the side but decides to be merciful for a hotass second and not loudly be like HOOKING UP?? just yet. It may be on the way! Bad.]
I see! --I think I see, rather. Never quite heard of a situation like that before. If you aren't the original version of yourself, what are you, then?
no subject
[He shrugs at that, because let's be real, expecting Chuuya to know all the details is expecting way too much out of a guy who remembered he was a mafia executive and went 'well, I guess that's me now'.]
A lot of us were in the same situation, though. We lived in the same city, but not everybody there was involved... it was rougher on some of them than it was on me, though. At least I was still from a pretty similar time period.
no subject
You seem pretty accepting of it, haha. [Not a bad way to view monumental bizarre shit happening in your life!]
How many of you were in that situation? Was it a little like this - people coming from everywhere, any time? It's strange to think that there were so many places like this out there all along!
no subject
[BIG SHRUG... you just get used to it, past a certain point.]
But it was sort of like this, yeah, except-- none of us knew we were from different worlds, at first. We all figured it out as we remembered things... I didn't know I was supposed to have an ability until I got it back, and I knew people who didn't know they weren't human until they started changing.
no subject
[Stated very matter-of-factly. HE'D HATE IT??]
I guess our missing pieces function in a similar way, but at least it isn't everything. What in the world was the point of handling things that way?
no subject
[a brief hum, there, before:]
Mine went a little unstable or something once, and I pretty much got reset. Had to get it back all over again.
no subject
[SAYS HE, MASTER OF DEALING WITH WEIRD SOUL SITUATIONS.]
no subject
[he says that SO FUCKING CASUALLY, just shrugging...]
no subject
You died but you were brought back alive? Pulse, breathing, bloodflow, all of that?
[That's some wild shit if he's ever heard it.]
no subject
[a hum, a wave of one hand.]
Real pain in the ass to deal with, but I'll take being alive, you know?
no subject
[He seems to be looking Very Thoughtful about this for some cursed reason - so much so that he's apparently temporarily forgotten about the dog. Granted, he's also been careful this entire conversation to just barely have enough of Chuuya in his line of sight to not be looking entirely away. SORRY MARSHMALLOW.]
no subject
[His brows furrow a bit there, and Marshmallow whines softly, headbutting him for pets. Distraction dog is Here To Help.]
But they seemed to know what they were doing. I'm not sure it'd work out anywhere else.
